Recreating native pastures on your property
16 February 2017
Unlocking the benefits of native pastures will be the focus of a workshop in Dooralong next month.
Hosted by Greater Sydney Local Land Services and Greening Australia, the event will give land owners a hands-on guide to recreating native grasslands and pastures on their property.
Greater Sydney Local Land Services officer Maree Whelan said participants would hear from leading ecologist Dr Paul Gibson-Roy on methods for restoring grassland and grassy woodland.
“We have many horse owners in our region keen to explore how they can encourage native grasses to grow for grazing,” she said.
“Other landholders who graze stock such as cattle and sheep really value learning of ways to improve pasture for their animals.”
The event will cover
- benefits of native pastures for grazing and biodiversity
- creating native grasslands / pasture from scratch
- tipping the balance of your paddock to natives
- sourcing and using native hay bales
- native pastures for profit
The recreating native pastures workshop will run from 9:30am to 1pm on Wednesday, 22 March 2017 at the Salvation Army's Transformation Centre - 1467 Dooralong Rd.
