Greater Sydney Chair, Terry Charlton
Terry is an experienced business professional who served as Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director of Snowy Hydro Ltd from 1999 until July 2013.
He has had a diverse working career, in Australia and abroad, which has seen him perform in a range of executive positions for Snowy Hydro Ltd and was the inaugural Chair for the Greater Sydney Local Land Services Board.
Previously, Terry was President of Edison Mission Energy responsible for operation, acquisitions and development of a gas, coal, and hydro energy company, employing 1,500 people based in the UK, Europe, the Middle East, and Africa.
Before moving to London with Edison Mission Energy, Terry was a consultant to infrastructure projects in Europe and prior to that was with Tubemakers of Australia for 35 years mostly in senior executive roles across industrial relations, people and safety, manufacturing and marketing of pipes and pipeline components, metal products merchandising, research and business development.
During his very successful time with Snowy Hydro Ltd, Terry identified other roles important to electricity system sustainability and security mainly based around water releases and quality in the Murray and Murrumbidgee river systems as well as river and dam safety, environmental management, provision of environmental products and marketing.
Over the years Terry has been heavily involved with various charitable boards and foundations such as the Monaro Early Intervention Service, SouthCare Helicopter Rescue Service, Cooma Universities Centre, Newcastle University Foundation and the NSW Meat Industry Council.
His interests include snow skiing, sailing, flying and breeding Angus cattle. Terry has a Master’s of Science (Psych) and a Bachelor of Commerce (Economics and Accounting) from Newcastle University. He now resides in the Blue Mountains.
